Come together, together as a one
Come together for Lucifer’s son

[BRT] Swedish occult band GHOST unmistakably continue their triumphal procession. They won a Grammy for a song from their latest full-length Meliora and also scored with their surprisingly released EP Popestar. The halls become bigger and GHOST still sell them out.
In the middle of the current tour itinerary former nameless Ghouls dropped a proper bombshell but it did not really affect anybody around here. The fans want to see the band and hear new material.
[Dajana] Yep, a lot of dirty (band) laundry will be washed now, accusations and filed lawsuits… What is true… time will tell. GHOST have sold out tonight’s location, the :: E-Werk :: in Cologne (2000 fans), and that is indeed notable, even if many fans wish back a small club atmosphere. However, a new release, a new tour and new stage setting, new line-up… A GHOST show is always spectacular, so let the ritual begin…

[BRT] Ghost have chosen Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based synth duo :: ZOMBI :: to support them on their tour. Key wiz and bass player Steve Moore and drummer Anthony Paterra have committed themselves to cosmic electronic music and released five albums so far. It is that kind of experimental music, developed in the 60s and known as German Krautrock. Think of Tangerine Dreams, but the music also refers to bands such as Goblin and Genesis. Some geeks have seemingly credited them as “synth wave”, whatever that means…
[Dajana] And it does not fit at all. However. I never heard of this band before but got instantly infected by BRT on our way towards Cologne. Yes, Tangerine Dreams popped up immediately, and Klaus Schulze. I like this kind of electronic music. It is bright, easygoing, and sanguine but also dark and menacing at the same time. That kind of music that can often be found in 80s horror movies (Near Dark anyone?). ZOMBI’s music really has a fresh note and so much verve. Awesome!
[BRT] ZOMBI kicked off at 8pm with atmospheric synth soundscapes, driving bass lines and powerful drum work. Sound is clear, transparent and might. It is pure fun and a pleasure to let go and drift away into outer space. Vibrant sequencers, dynamics, changes in pace and a spare light show (only red and blue lights) made the show an entertaining event. I really like ZOMBI and I saw people that liked them too. Unfortunately, there was a huge amount of event-people that obviously could not do anything with this music.
[Dajana] Yeah, unfortunately. I heard many people nagging about the support band. Why are so many people musically so intolerant and narrow-minded? I really, really loved it! Great music, great show! (Ok, more lights would have been beautiful. Such music demand a cosmic light show ;)).

:: pics :: GHOST ::

[BRT] GHOST know what they do, no doubt. Their show is mix of rehearse choreography, humorous entertainment and a very own brand of arena rock. The new nameless ghouls permanently move, play the songs heavier, more powerful than experienced on their last tour. Sound and lights were excellent and perfectly staged Papa Emeritus the sevenhundredtwelfth. And he knew how to master and to animate the crowd, to let them move, cheer and sing along. GHOST carved their own niche with the so called “Abba on metal”-sound and created an appealing show. Songs such as He Is, Ghuleh/Zombie Queen and Monstrance Clock during the encore were frenetically celebrated. Oh, dear Lord... erm… Lord of Darkness, of course ;) Well, at points the show is almost at the limits. Confetti and glittering stuff are too much in my opinion. Can be left aside next time ;)
[Dajana] GHOST is mainstream and so is the crowd. It is utterly kitschy but the audience loved it. Of course, there have been nigglers too, nagging that this band is no metal anymore and this is no metal crowd. I wonder where those people have heard brutal riffing and trve metal-like songs in GHOST… Tonight, GHOST played much more energetic, livelier, than at their Meliora tour last year. It seems, the band-makeover has its effect. Maybe, the line-up change was really necessary? It also felt that Papa Emeritus was much more talkative. His verbiage about the female orgasm as introduction to the encore song Monstrance Clock was a bit lengthy but brought the show to a grand finale. ;)
[BRT] Summary: Great evening with two, totally different bands. Entertainment deluxe that released us into the night with a satanic smile on our faces.
[Dajana] Agreed!
