For
a very long time Swedish Death Metal masters HYPOCRISY
didn’t tour throughout Europe. I think they were seen 2005
last time around, in the USA 2006. In the meantime mastermind
Peter Tägtgren was focusing on his other band Pain. Time
has come… finally… to get a taste again of what made
this band so legendary. In support of their brand new record A
Taste Of Extreme Divinity they start haunting across Europe
with fresh musicians, since the US tour did not take place for
some visa problems ;) Also this European tour-leg didn’t
kick off without “wounds”. Danish Thrash/Death Metal
powerhouse Hatesphere dropped off the tour in December due to
line-up changes and wasn’t replaced. I just wonder why they
can now embark on a US tour… odd. However, as for me HYPOCRISY
can also tour all alone and play 2 hrs shows every night ;)

Weather these
days leaves a lot to be desired. Not, that I don’t like
winter and snow, much the opposite, but on streets and highways,
not cleared and salted, snow is quite non-productive. Oh, it improves
your driving abilities for sure and brings you closer to your
car ;) Anyway, first impressions of the visitors’ stream
towards the Matrix
was meager, but on time for the headliner the Tube should be well-crowded
;)
Kicking off
tonight’s evening was the local support ::
FAILED
PERFECTION :: a young band founded back in 2005
and with just one demo CD under their belt. But the guys are busily
working on their debut right now. Furthermore they have a brand
new guitar player on board by the name of Marco. He joined around
one month ago and already delivered his first written song for
FAILED PERFECTION. Musically one gets the typical Swedish,
Gothenburg-tinged melodic Death Metal in the veins of In Flames
and Dark Tranquillity with some nice samples in between. Frontman
Chris is for sure a visual… um… hey-babe, especially
when he starts performing with nude torso, but he also can sing,
delivering deep guttural growls ;) I just think that FAILED
PERFECTION were a little bit over-ambitious. On the other
hand, to play with a band such as Hypocrisy might turn excitement
up to the max. After 30 minutes time was over and the last track
meant to be an encore was cut. Well-done show!
Setlist: Born Under A Demon Sky, Deciphering Reality,
In Oblivion, Pilgrimage, New Horizons, Daymares
Next up ::
SURVIVORS
ZERO :: entered the stage and I didn’t like
them right from the start. Most of all singer Tommi Virranta is
to blame for hat. He acted like a super-prole, was aggressive
and generally a dumb-ass. His mate, 4-stringer Tapio had to relativize
what was said by Tommi, but he got even more incited as the crowd’s
response was more than just reserved. Lights sucked too. Badly.
Only drummer Seppo commanded my respect. He was sick for 2 days
now but still gave 100% behind his drumkit, and SURVIVORS ZERO
are far away from being slow. All songs came from the band’s
debut entitled CMXCIX, except for People Of The
Lie, which belongs to Kreator and was the only song, where
the Matrix was boiling up a little.
Setlist: Embrace The Inferno, Thorns Of Rapture, Scavengers
Of Christ, Armageddon Cult, I Bury Them Deeper, I’m The
Gun, People Of The Lie (Kreator), Reclaim My Heritage
Afterwards
it got quickly clear what for the fans were here tonight ::
HYPOCRISY
::! During the change-over the Matrix got much crowded
and we heard many ah’s and oh’s already when the stage
scenery got revealed. Horgh was enthroned above all others with
metallic symbols on the right and left and grids below with lights
behind ;) Down Mr. Peter Tägtgren shared stage with bass
player Mikael Hedlund and… um… well, who was the second
guitarist? Ok, it’s Tomas Elofsson ov Sanctification. Dark
atmospheric intro, some smoke, a fantastic sound and finally a
great lightshow promised a breathtaking show. Then Valley Of
The Damned was befalling fans, followed by Hang Him High,
another new song. Already with song 3, Fractures Millenium,
the classics started, all my hair raised and I had gooseflesh
all over the body :) Waaaah, how great is that? I dunno when I
saw HYPOCRISY the last time; it must have been many years
ago. I forgot how great this band can be, how great these old
songs still are. Bloody hell! That’s a show to kneel down
for ;) The band is in good mood and Peter's voice in good shape.
He screams and growls as if there is no tomorrow. The crowd is
going wild and sings along every song, even to the melodies of
Fractures Millenium and Apocalypse. HYPOCRISY
go through their entire history, from the brand new record back
to the debut Penetralia. From my favorite HYPOCRISY
album, um… better said they are all faves, The Final
Chapter, they even played 3 songs :) What a show! Another
highlight in 2010! Already! Nothing more to say ;)
Setlist: Intro, Valley Of The Damned, Hang Him High,
Fractures Millenium, Adjusting The Sun, Eraser, Pleasure Of Molestation/Oscolum
Obcenum/Penetralia Medley, Apocalypse/4th Dimension Medley, Killing
Art, A Coming Race, Let The Knife Do The Talking, Weed Out The
Weak, Fire In The Sky // Intro, Roswell 666, Warpath, The Final
