"Sun Boozing "

[BRT] The long line at the entry and the way to handle it already proves: the common Death and Black Metal fan is in real truthfulness a straw-hatted Hippie that wants to put his tummy in the sun while drinking a beer and relaxedly listening to some good music. Everything is stress-free and fine and this mood rubs off on the security-entrance-reception-committee, really friendly dudes.

:: pics ::

[Dajana] Perfect introduction to PSOA newbie BRT. As you already might have noticed, this festival caught him right from the beginning ;)

[BRT] The intake of doped fruits makes us quickly feel high and witty to get our tents up accident-free. Unfortunately we miss :: DEAD CONGREGATION ::
[Terry] Well, you did not miss any special, which was due to technical problems. Guitar or amp respectively of the frontman just didn’t want to work. I just did not understand why the stage crew did not change the equipment quickly. Too bad for band and crowd.

[Dajana] Nevermind, we could hear them ;) A short excursion for locality and our first Köstritzer dark beer brings us on time to :: IN SOLITUDE ::
[BRT] Thus the one and only Heavy Metal band on the billing opens the festival for us. IN SOLITUDE play with full power and can enthuse the heavier orientated audience. Well, singer Pelle Åhman has a lot of charisma.
[Terry] Yep, I liked it too. Little later I met these guys at the signing session box and got two cards. Would like to give one away… ;)

[BRT] Next up is :: NECROS CHRISTOS :: the first band from darker fields that tries to doom the sun. Musically extremely great but only unfolds a lukewarm effect at this awesome weather. A small club with great lights would be perfect for them.
[Dajana] Dunno what I did but I can’t remember this band. I took photos of them, yes, so I was present, but… well… *laughs* It was said they were great…

[Dajana] As more I was active and receptive when :: NIFELHEIM :: entered the stage. Since the legendary Hole In The Sky Festival I love the Swedes ;)
[BRT] The first Black Metal band defies the sun. Dressed in an exorbitant spikes, rivets, bullets and nails outfit these guys take it easy and so downright rock the stage with their thrashy old school sound, it’s a hell of a blast.

[BRT] :: VALLENFYRE :: right after is a real surprise. It’s the new band of Gregor Mackintosh (Paradise Lost) ranging anywhere between Bolt Thrower, Autopsy, early Paradise Lost and Discharge. And they play it with such delight and enthusiasm.
[Dajana] Hmm… not that I couldn’t remember… but I found them just half as spectacular.
[Terry] Protest! VALLENFYRE really surprised me the positive way. Great mix of styles, sound was powerful but differentiated and guys had a lot fun playing.

[BRT] :: SÓLSTAFIR :: deliver the first strong change in style towards psychedelic Rock. Long epic tracks that heartily invite to toke. The Icelandic guys create a completely own and unique atmosphere, nether specially Icelandic nor having the feet on Haight-Ashbury.
[Dajana] What is typical for Iceland? And yes, this atmosphere is unique, magical. You cannot escape, you cannot elude. It’s gooseflesh causing. Stunning. Stirring. And of course way too short.
Setlist: Ljosfari, Þín Orð, Fjara, Goddess Of The Ages

[BRT] Jahaa… :: SODOM :: we probably saw too. But memories faded away quickly. And the boss needed to catch sight on the photos to be sure if we did see them or not.
[Dajana] Blackout… no comment :P
[Terry] I had this “moment” the next day ;) As of SODOM… I liked their show. Much experienced and professional the good way.

[BRT] Do we still have to say much about :: BOLT THROWER :: ? With their mighty and brutal sound the congenial Brits finish the first PSOA festival day. Any other band after them does not make any sense.
[Dajana] It was just awesome!
[Terry] At some point I could not stand still anymore and jumped into the mosh pit (I rarely do these days, coz I’m getting’ older…) I just wanted to be as close as possible to feel this elemental force called BOLT THROWER. And it was over way too fast. The show was way too short!
Setlist: War, Remembrance, World Eater, Cenotaph, The IVth Crusade, Anti-Tank (Dead Armour), ...For Victory, When Glory Beckons, The Killchain, Powder Burns, Where Next to Conquer, Salvo, No Guts No Glory, When Cannons Fade

[Dajana] Man… I quickly got rid of my cams and joined the crowd to mosh and head-bang. And then the bell ringed for the party. A boozy and cheerful one. And a long one. With an uncertain finale…
[BRT] Great bands with great shows. The first festival day will be hard to top.
